from the team. >> warriors certainly hot tonight. tomorrow the heat is going to be felt by people across the bay area. expected to be the warmest week of the year. rob mayeda tracking it all from the weather center. and temperatures are up, but so is the fire danger. >> and the temperatures will be climbing about as hot as steph curry's jump shot tonight at the oracle arena. right now temperatures pretty warm out there. upper 60s still after 11:00. if you have been outside this evening, you know what i'm talking about. it is warm outside. almost 10 to 15 degrees warmer at this hour than 24 hours ago. we're starting to see signs of the sea breeze weak eing, barely getting into fairfield now. the reason fire dangler be on the increase is the dry spring so far. but a shift in the winds. dry north winds at times means less humidity, warming temperatures, especially around the inner bay. typically north winds wouldn't be too much of a problem. but if you go back to february through now, bay area rainfall well behind where we should be. about 25% of average for san francisco. 19% of average in san jose. and the last time we had a quarter inch of rain, that was

on april 4th. so as our temperatures climb up tomorrow, again, dry and almost near 90 by lunch time tomorrow. we will see days where we could be approaching the mid 90s in parts of the bay area. we'll show you the hottest days of week coming up in your seven-day forecast in just a few minutes. terry? >> rob, thanks very much. cal fire plans to announce a burn ban starting tomorrow across several bay area counties. and that means it will be illegal to burn any outdoor fires during the next five months or so. firefighters say they have seen several small fires over the last few weeks, and the ban will help prevent more of those. the burn ban coming about two weeks earlier than normal because of the dry conditions. >> typically the burn ban is in effect until we see some measurable amount of precip that comes back and we get some recovery of the field moistures in the larger plant materials and stuff thought the wild land. >> here is a look at the the counties in and around the bay area affected by the ban. santa clara, alameda, contra costa, san mateo, santa cruz,

stanislas, san benito, monterey and san joaquin. cal fire plans to hire more staff to deal with the dry conditions, adding 42 firefighters in mid-may. authorities are urging people in one central valley community to stay indoors and lock their doors while they expand the search for the person that killed an 8-year-old girl. this is happening in the small town of valley springs about 30 miles east of stockton. kcra has the latest. >> reporter: those who new laila fowler are tying up ribbons in her honor at jenny lind elementary. >> she was happy, happy, smiley, always saw her in pink or purple. just happy and everybody loved her. >> reporter: while friends and family grieve, authorities expand their search for the man they believe killed the 8-year-old. with tips and leads pouring in from outside the county, and more evidence collected from inside the home. >> we did collect some fingerprints during that search, and we also collected what we believe to be dna.

those prints and that dna will hopefully be processed within the next week. >> reporter: despite increased security from deputies patrolling nearby areas, residents say this murder has shattered their sense of safety. there. >> is a lot of parents who have to commute and go to work. and they are latchkey kids. so they come home, and they unlock the doors. so i'm really concerned about our neighborhood now. >> reporter: concern that along with shock and sadness will be difficult to deal with i the coming days. >> it's going to be hard. tomorrow is going to be a tough day for all of us. as a community, we'll get through it together. >> reporter: again, that was claire dejuan reporting. they plan to have increased officer presence at schools as well as bus stops tomorrow. and the candlelight vigil in laila's honor is planned for tuesday evening at jenny lind elementary school. new questions in the boston bombings investigation. what did one of the suspects do, and who did he visit during a six-month stay in the republic of dagestan just south of russia?

tamerlan tsarnaev's visit last year caught the attention of russian anti-terrorism agents. the big question for lawmakers, whether tamerlan received terrorist training during his trip. several former counterterrorism officials tell nbc news that investigators are leaning right now towards a theory that the two had no training and act aid lone. >> i suspect that ultimately we're going to:include that a lot of the radicalization took place before the trip. that these brothers, particularly the older brother were more self-radicalized. >> in boston this morning, the iconic old south church held service for the first time since the bombings two weeks ago tomorrow. then there was a walk and vigil to the marathon finish line. signs the boston strong spirit is thriving. we have an update now on the 11-year-old boy from martinez who was injured in the boston bombings. the picture posted on his family's facebook page shows aaron hern enjoying a boat ride in boston, where he is

recovering from shrapnel wounds he suffered two weeks ago. hern is also receiving plenty of support from folks all over the bay area. hundreds of people participated in a run today in his honor in martinez, and several restaurants have been donating a portion of their proceeds to his recovery fund. and emotions ran high at the big sur international marathon today as many of the 4,000 runners wore blue and gold, the colors of the boston marathon. crowds also lined highway 1 from big sur to carmel, many holding signs of support for those who were killed and the hundreds more who were injured nearly two weeks ago. new at 11:00, traffic stopped on major roadway in the peninsula tonight while firefighters battled a blaze at a vacant hotel. about 30 firefighters were called to the tropicana lodge on el camino real in mountainview about 6:30 tonight. the fire forced them to shut down all westbound lanes between mariposa and escuela avenues. the hotel was scheduled for deem laigs ligs. high security and a whoeven

sequester cuts are raising security concerns here in the bay area. the u.s. coast guard is scaling back operations, which means possible terror targets like the golden gate bridge are not being monitored as often. nbc bay area jean elle live in marin county with more on the cuts. jean? >> reporter: terry, the department of homeland security says the number of coast guard missions is being cut, and that means eyes will be taken off possible terror targets like the golden gate bridge. u.s. coast guard boats sit idle under the golden gate bridge. sequester cuts mean fewer missions. the department of homeland security says $295 million is being slashed from the u.s. coast guard's budget, curtailing air and surface operations by 25%. adversely affecting maritime safety and security across all mission areas. >> this was supposed to be the poison pill that we would never get here. but in truth we are here. >> reporter: congresswoman jackie spears says the sequester

is a tough reality. agencies have little to no control over where the mandated cuts are made. "the san francisco chronicle" reports the coast guard is trying to save on fuel costs, which means cutting back on patrols and possible terrorism targets, like the golden gate bridge, the bay bridge and bart. bart says its system is security. the golden gate has multiple agencies keeping an eye on the icon. spears says while the sequester is less than ideal, it is a chance to streamline services. >> it's also an opportunity for us, though. it's an opportunity for the coast guard, for instance, to look at how they can comply with their mission without having, you know, boats in the water so to speak. i mean, there are cameras underneath the golden gate bridge. >> reporter: spear also says congress needs to modify the sequester so agencies can control where to cut. >> give them the flexibility to make the kinds of cuts that they need to make in areas where they

think they can do the least amount of harm. >> reporter: it can be done. congress passed a bill friday, allowing the federal aviation administration to pay air traffic controllers and end furloughs that delayed thousands of flights. now congress is in recess this week. the sequester cannot be addressed until the house and senate are back in session. reporting live in marin county, jean elle, nbc bay area news. >> jean, thanks very much. the federal sequester budget cuts you're talking about also taking a bite out of unemployment benefits for californians. as of today, the unemployed will see a nearly 18% cut. the state estimates the average long-term unemployed californian will lose $52 per week. with many officials at san jose international airport anxiously watching, japan conducted its first test flight of the revamped boeing 787 dreamliner today. it comes after batteries aboard the 787 failed in two separate incidents in january. the cause of those failures is still unclear. since then, boeing has made

improvements to the battery system, and today's two-hour test flight was a success, we're told. san jose international plans five weekly nonstop flights to japan on those dream liners, and is expecting about $77 million in annual revenue from the added traffic. new details tonight on the deadly building collapse in bangladesh. the owner of the illegally constructed building is in custody. he was captured as he was trying to leave the country. officials say 377 people have died so far in the collapse. in the meantime, a fire broke out in the debris from the collapse. that forced crews to stop rescue efforts. officials say the fire was caused by sparks as rescuers tried to cut through a steel rod to reach a trapped woman. the fire injured at least three rescuers. the woman they were trying to rescue is feared dead. the brutality in syria has reached a dangerous new level with evidence of the use of chemical weapons this past week. it's a development that has leaders in our nation's capital debating what 20 do. official says while evidence shows sarin gas was used, it's

not yet clear if it was the assad regime or rebels who used it. each side blames the other. if it was the syrian government, president obama said that would be a crossing of a red line with enormous consequences. >> once we announce there is a red line, if we don't take it seriously, we are discrediting ourselves, not just in syria, but in iran, north korea, all around the world. >> the president's supporters say he is pressing other world leaders for possible solution. right now there is no clear consensus on what america should do if syria did cross that line. the focus now is on focusing who gave the order to use chemical weapons. tonight police are investigating an attempted murder that happened during a party in gilroy last night. officers were called to a home around 8:00 on farrell avenue in the northern part of that city. investigators say someone fired shots during a fight that broke out at the party. no one was hit by the bullets, but several people were injured, including one person who was stabbed. that person is expected to survive. police say the fight was gang-related, but so far have not made any arrests.

>> and a candlelight vigil is being held tomorrow for brandy martel. it was one year ago that the transgendered woman was killed in oakland. police have not made any arrests in the case. someone shot and killed martel while she was sitting in her car with three other transgendered friends. martel's former supervisor at the tri-valley health center in fremont says it appears it may have been a hate crime. the vigil is planned at the same place where she was killed at 13th and franklin streets near the 12th street bart station. two sisters accused of felony child abuse at a livermore day care are expected to enter pleas in court tomorrow. investigators say 35-year-old nazila sharaf and her sister swaddled infants so fight their breathing was restricted. they're also accused of covering baby's heads with blankets and turning up the heat to make the babies sleepy. their lawyer says in no way did they intend to hurt the babies. tomorrow students at a san

jose middle school will be returning to a campus that has whole new look. all weekend volunteers from venture church and the community service group called beautiful day worked to transform sylvandale middle school. administrators say it was in huge need of a face-lift. the workers painted lockers and walls and added a mural on the outside of the building. >> the school in the neighborhood and the community doesn't necessarily have the best reputation. so we're working on changing our reputation in the community, and by having venture christian and beautiful day come in, it has been huge. not only did they bring so many people to come in and tell the community that other people care, but it also brought the community in to help rebuild their school. >> and every person working at the school this weekend volunteered their time, including the contractors and the painters. hundreds of people gathered today in san jose's japantown for the 36th annual japanese festival. today's events celebrating japanese american culture and heritage, featuring several

performances, including dance and music as well as karate demonstrations and of course japanese arts and food. san jose representative zoe lofgren spoke about the significance of today's event, which happened in one of the few surviving japantown communities left in the united states. nbc bay area's mike inouye emceed today's festivities. in shorts, i believe. >> yes. you know why? >> because it was warm. >> it was a beautiful day. i'm thinking we should ask rob about it. i don't know. call me crazy. >> we saw temperatures around san jose low 80s today. it was nice and comfortable outside for most of the bay area. but we will see temperatures climbing up a few degrees more tomorrow. but look at the numbers over my shoulder. it's after 11:00, and we're still near 70 degrees in livermore, san jose, sunnyvale. mid 60s to upper 60s inland. so clearly things have changed here over the last 24 hours. temperatures at this hour run mortgage than 15 degrees warmer than at the same time yesterday. we also don't have any of those low clouds spilling inland like we have seen over the last couple of nights, a sign that

we're starting to see some warming air aloft, and also the shutdown of the sea breeze going to lead to a warm-up tomorrow. right now winds only southwest at 6 into fairfield. the last few nights that's been up to 20 miles per hour. as high pressure sits off to our west, obviously it's blocking the storms. those will continue to stay off the north during the day tomorrow. still some northwest winds, which will mix in some dryer air. should it prevent any coastal low clouds. around the bay, mostly 70s and low 80s inland. we'll see the low 90s around the east bay and areas south of san jose for the afternoon. and then tuesday and wednesday, as the winds turn out of the north, this is going to lead to some dry and gusty conditions. we'll have to watch this for fire danger issues, perhaps in our hill tops. it will also allow the inner bay and coast to see the warmest temperatures of the week, starting late tuesday into wednesday. we'll see the numbers jumping up into the mid-70s on the coast, and a slight drop in inland temperatures. then thursday and friday the winds back off. temperatures climb back up once again as we approach next weekend. hour-by-hour in terms of clouds and precipitation, not much there until tomorrow night.

weak system starts to drop, in tossing some high clouds their way. which will set the stage for the gusty winds in the hills following up on tuesday. tonight lows eventually should reach the 50s outside. upper 60s now in san jose. but with the clear skies we'll wake up to the upper 50s tomorrow morning. and then high temperatures tomorrow climbing into the mid and upper 80s from san jose, morgan hill near 90 degrees. we should see low to maybe close to mid-90s tomorrow. livermore, pleasanton into sunol, mid- to upper 80s heading out the fairfield. low 90s in solano county. north bay counties looking at temperatures in the mid- to upper 80s tomorrow. still should be close to the low 70s and mid-70s for san francisco. warmest days for the peninsula and coast will be coming up wednesday and thursday. so three-day forecast watching first the temperatures climbing up inland for tomorrow, and then gusty winds may see some fire weather watches going up tuesday afternoon and wednesday, depending on how strong the winds are. and then the winds will back off and the temperatures start to climb on up. as we good into thursday and

friday, could see some mid-90s inland. and as we get into next weekend, probably right around this time, we will see the fog sweeping back. in by sunday, we'll see cooling temperatures. but in the meantime, you're looking at almost six days of summer-like weather. but the wind could be the story tuesday and wednesday. hopefully not too strong. but this the meantime, if you like heading out to the coast, mid-70s coming up. >> good advice. thank you, rob. it's been part of the bay area since the gold rush days of mid 1800s. today people gathered to celebrate the 150th anniversary in san francisco. the fort hosted events across the 7 1/2 mile waterfront. >> it's a celebration of our 150th anniversary, which we're very proud. and the port has had a long and colorful history in terms of how it's been operated and run. >> the city of san francisco took over the port in 1969 from the state of california. >> well done. >> thank you.

when david lee was ruled out forrest of the play-offs after an injury in game one, very few believed that the warriors could win a game in their best of seven series against the nuggets. well, tonight they are one win away from moving on to the second round. and how do they do that at oracle arena? well, they started with releasing the big man, andrew bogut. right here on to mcgee. the dunk. and he gets a nice bounce pass on steph curry as well. curry with a beautiful assist. fans just loving this. the second quarter, bogut saves it. then he is going to throw it out to curry. he is going to finish the oop from curry. bogut five boards in the first

half. and the crowd loving it so much. the decibel level was over 100. that is very, very loud. third quarter, curry driving. hammered by mcgee and his bench is liking his effort. he is not done. the warriors up 14. curry with the steal, goes coast-to-coast and deep with the three. 22 of his 31 points came in the third quarter. then in the fourth, curry gets poked in the eye by corey brewer. he would have to come out for a few minutes. but the rest of the teammates have this one in hand. he will come back into the game. but clay connects. henry wofford has more from oracle arena. >> steph curry has an injured ankle, a blood shot eye and a tight hamstring. however, he only needed 33 minutes to score 31 points in game four against the nuggets. there is no stopping steph curry. even coach mark jackson said he

nissan is recalling thousands of altimas because of

a defect with a spare tire. it can be overor under inflated which can increase the risk of a crash. nissan says there are no accidents or injuries related to the issue thus far. the automaker blames the problem on a malfunctioning pressure regulator at a plant which has been fixed. dealers say they will inspect and adjust the tire pressure free of charge. wedding bells range for michael jordan saturday as he married his long-time girlfriend in an afternoon ceremony in palm beach. fans lined the sidewalk at the bethesda by the sea episcopal church hoping to see the newlyweds. he tied the knot with yvette pieto in front of about 500 guests. tiger woods, spike lee, patrick ewing all there. we're told about 1500 additional friends were invited for the reception, although i have read between 2,000 and 3,000. it's hard to say this. is jordan's second marriage. they have not released wedding photos just yet, but we have other photos on our website, nbcbayarea.com.

in the aftermath of the boston marathon bombings, doctors were forced to perform amputations on at least 14 patients. >> many of them are already finding a ready support network among veterans of the past two wars. and nbc's lester holt shows us how these wounded warriors can teach them plenty about hope and living a full life.

>> reporter: it was not what anyone expected on the streets of america. instantly, the fates of ordinary americans horribly maimed by improvised bombs were inextricably linked to wounded american soldiers, like calvin todd. >> we were on a mission, a foot patrol. >> reporter: todd's life altering moment happened in afghanistan. >> i stepped on a secondary and i lost my lower left legs. >> reporter: now the 26-year-old is on the front lines of a different kind. >> i'm almost back to new. i can run eight-minute miles now. i've got probably got four or five different feet for different activities. >> reporter: todd is one of nearly 1600 service members to lose limbs in combat since the start of the war in afghanistan. for many, the road to recovery is through here, walter reed medical center in bethesda. doctors say the painful experiences of the battlefield have changed the future for all amputees. >> we have plenty of examples of that from our injured service

members who have not only survived, you know, extraordinary blast injuries, but have thrived from them. and there is no reason to think that the victims in boston won't do the same. >> reporter: the steep learning curve born of decades of war have produced a vances in bionic hands, knees, ankles, and beyond. >> i can rotate all the way around. i wear this all the time. >> reporter: travis mills is one of five quadruple amputees from both wars. >> i'm very fortunate that the research that has been done has benefitted myself through my injuries. i know if i would have got hurt like i did ten years ago, i probably wouldn't have made it off the battlefield. >> reporter: there are new approaches to rehabilitation too, physically and mentally. >> they need to have a good perspective who they are. to feel good about themselves. >> just keep moving forward, keep going, and we'll get better. >> reporter: for calvin todd, he only needs to look to his side for inspiration. while the landscape in afghanistan is a long way from boylston street, this war

in humboldt county there a view taking a flight across computer screens everywhere. >> it's two american bald eagles and their new babies whose every meal is being beamed to growing crowd of fans around the world. mike taibbi reports. >> reporter: monty merrick of the humboldt wildlife care center spends a lot of times nursing injured birds back to health. this one survived a gunshot wound. >> you can see how the wing wants to droop. >> reporter: but these days merrick and his staff and nearly 300,000 fans online can't keep their eyes off the computer screen. two nesting eagles with their two new chicks born just this week, the first named kyle and the second to be named by local school children. >> one of the things that is nice about it is it really demonstrates that the endangered species act works. >> reporter: since the passage of that act four decades ago, they severe the nesting eagles

the outer fringe of high clouds spilling on top of the bay area at times. during the day tomorrow, no low clouds on the coast. we've had the fog around the last few mornings. we'll see less of that the next few days. and as the system passes by monday night into tuesday, unfortunately the item to watch this week, gusty dry wins winds taking shape tuesday afternoon into wednesday. morning temperatures warming quickly. 60s and 70s by right:00 and 9:00 tomorrow morning. lunch time you're already in the upper 80s inland, and mid-80s closer to san jose. you can see 70s. low 90s around the east bay valleys. and even near 90 degrees temperatures close to morgan hill. as the winds start to pick up, during the evening, still notice 7:00, you're still in the 70s and 80s inland. not much of a sea breeze influence on our weather. and the opposite in fact. north winds, which will really start to warm up the bay and along the coast. mid 70s by wednesday. inland temperatures dropping off a little bit for tuesday and wednesday. then bouncing back up into the mid 90s in a few spots. this will be for thursday and friday. warmest days of the week look to
